About the technology
Kubernetes is a container-orchestration system created at Google and the de facto standard for large cloud applications. Where Docker packs an app into containers, Kubernetes manages them across a whole cluster of servers: it distributes load, adds copies of the app at peak hours and removes the spare ones overnight, restarts any that fail and rolls updates out gradually with no downtime for shoppers. For a high-load store that means resilience to individual server failures, smooth scaling for sales events and savings on infrastructure. We use Kubernetes on the largest projects, where continuous availability and elastic scaling matter.
Kubernetes manages an app’s containers across a cluster of servers: it scales them automatically under load, restarts failed ones and rolls out updates with no downtime. We choose it for large, high-load projects.
