About the technology
Linux is the server operating system that powers most of the internet and nearly all of our production servers. It isn't a laptop OS but a platform our system administrators tend to every day: application deployment, the web server, the database, security patching, monitoring and backups. Its stability and predictability mean months of uninterrupted uptime with no reboots, its open source means no licence fees, and full control over the server lets us tune it precisely for your store's load. Ubuntu and Debian — the distributions we use most — have long support cycles, so the server stays secure and current for years.
Our stores' production servers run on Linux (Ubuntu / Debian) — it's where we deploy the application, web server and database, and set up security updates, monitoring and backups.
